Favorite Lds Musical Artists?

Recommended Posts

I’ve really been enjoying listening to some LDS artists recently, and I would love to find out your favorites as well.  Here are some of mine, organized into a few groups (sorry the list is so long….I just couldn’t leave any of them out!).

YOUTUBE

The Piano Guys--piano, cello, and some talented producers behind the scenes.  They are just brilliant!  Probably most famous for their “Cello Wars.”

Lindsey Stirling--modern violin.  Some great covers/collaborations as well as some original work.

Alex Boye--African style vocals.  Amazing.

VOCAL SOLOISTS

David Archuleta.  Just cute as a button (don’t you want to pinch those cheeks?).  Famous from “American Idol,” what I like most about him is that he chose to serve a mission despite all of the fame.  He mostly sings pop.  I think I like him as a person better than his music.

Michael Ballam.  A great opera singer.

COMPOSERS

Janice Kapp Perry--probably the most prolific and influential LDS composer of all time.  Her songs inspire me.

Kenneth Cope.  Another great LDS composer.  Perhaps most famous for the song “His Hands.”

Kurt Bestor--new age composer and keyboardist.  My favorite pieces from him are from his Joyspring albums, piano arrangements of the hymns, but he has some other nice ones too.

Michael Mclean.  Ever heard of “The Forgotten Carols” or “Mr. Krueger’s Christmas”?  You may also know him from some LDS songs like “Stay With Me” and “You’re Not Alone.”

INSTRUMENTAL

The 5 Browns--classical piano quintet.  They are 5 siblings, two brothers and three sisters.

Michael Dowdle--guitar.  He does some nice acoustic hymn and primary song arrangements, but he can also really rock!  Note:  the 25 hymns is really long.  It's essentially the whole CD.

GROUPS

The Killers (Brandon Flowers, lead singer).  Modern rock group.  I just love their song “Human.”

Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  No list would be complete without them!

HONORABLE MENTION

Delos Jewkes.  He is no longer with us, but he worked as a singer in many movies and TV shows, mostly uncredited.  He was said to have a voice that could go five octaves below middle C.  He played Glen Cripe (the man who sang behind the curtain) in “Barney and the Choir” on the Andy Griffith Show.  Start watching the below at 17:14 or so.   :)

Kenneth Cope was in one of my wards on the mission. He was a nice guy. He drove me to another city for a transfer. I had an autographed cassette of one of his albums, but another missionary borrowed it and I never got it back.

Lol I just read my post and it looks like it was written by a robot. I just woke up  :curl-lip: .

Stephen Sharp Nelson is in my parents-in-law's ward.  I really need to have them get his autograph sometime!  I wonder if there are any Piano Guys t-shirts....

I'll have to check ouf Jesse Clark-Funk.

Afterglow--you are old school!  I will definitely check all of those out.  :)  Been enjoying Jesse Clark Funk--a couple of her albums are up on Youtube in entirety.
