Funeral Potatoes

Recommended Posts

I think they taste good because someone has died. Not sure why, but they are only good at funerals... Morbid, but true!

Ew!

They have two good things going for them...potatoes and sour cream. Give me potatoes and sour cream and I'm quite content.

As a side note... you insane Mormons seem to love this stuff called fry sauce... Not being from mormonville USA, I cannot appreciate it...

Thanks Striker! They have their own wiki, how wild is that?!?!?! I'll have to make them for dinner soon. Do you think if I tell my family they will turn mormon if they eat some they'll think it's funny? I tried that with cookies on a roommate shortly after being baptized. She didn't talk to me for a few days.

Fry sauce is awesome, Striker! In Belgium (most famously) and other places in Europe, they dip their fries in mayo. Fry sauce in it's basic form is just a happy median betwixt the two condiments - most typically one part ketsup and two parts mayo. I'm Texan, and I love the stuff, it's the only condiment I put on my fries. Make some and try it, seriously.

I had some thoughts regaring funeral potatoes. I think some tweaking to the basic recipe would be awesome, such as: rather than 2 cups sour cream, go with 1 cup sour cream and 8 ounces of cream cheese. I'm thinking rather than the corn flake butter crust, I'd substitute a crust of panko bread crumbs and shredded parmesan cheese. Really, any opportunity to get one's cheese on is good with me.

And to make them even better, add some shredded bacon. :) Oh, yeah, fry sauce ftw.

I know for the crust my mom likes to do use French's fried onions and i think she uses cream of mushroom or cream of something in it as well as some sour cream. I might have to get the recipe and put it up here.
